Bend Summer Theater changes (interpreting must be requested; new name)

*new* This summer (2018), if you use ASL and want to attend the summer play at Drake Park in Bend, you must request interpreters. There is no scheduled interpreted performance unless there is a request. The play this year will be "Jesus Christ Superstar."

The second change to Lay It Out Events' program, is that it is now called "Theater in the Park" and not "Shakespeare in the Park." They are not limiting the plays to Shakepeare. This year's play, "Jesus Christ Superstar," is a big musical about the last week of Jesus' life. The play has two performances on August 24 & 25.
If you want to see this play and need sign access, contact the sponsor, Lay It Out Events (see below). They are happy to provide interpreters, but only if there is a request. They have been great about providing signing access for many years and will secure interpreters IF there is interest.
I have been involved with coordinating the interpreters and have been one of the interpreters several times. My reason for sharing this information is that I don't want anyone to assume there will be an interpreted performance as there has been in the past. A request needs to be made, and far enough in advance to reserve the interpreters with enough time to prepare and Lay It Out Events will be happy to provide interpreters if you let them know.

"The Tempest" interpreted 8/20 in Bend, OR

Lay It Out Events presents
an interpreted performance of

William Shakespeare's
The Tempest

DATE: Saturday, August 20, 2016
TIME: Play begins at 7pm
Doors open earlier for drinks and food
LOCATION: Drake Park in Bend, OR
TICKETS: $22 - $45 regular;
or $75 VIP ticket, which includes seat, 2 drink tickets, dinner

Shakespeare’s late, valedictory romance “The Tempest” is a tale of family betrayal, enchantment and ultimately, forgiveness. Inherently theatrical, the unfolding of the exotic, supra-human and sometimes invisible characters makes it one of the Bard’s most beguiling and entertaining stories.
The play begins on a remote island where sorcerer Prospero, the overthrown Duke of Milan, has been exiled with his daughter Miranda. Prospero uses his learned magical powers to unhinge a powerful storm, the tempest in the story. This storm causes a shipwreck of Prospero’s usurping brother Antonio, luring him to the island along with the complicit King of Alonso of Naples. There, Prospero’s illusions bring about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son.
Thought by many critics to be the last play Shakespeare wrote alone, in the end, the audience is the only one who can set Prospero free from the island.

*"Enjoy the scenic and serene event in Drake Park.  The street will be closed so all you will hear are the actors, the river and your fellow audience members."*

Bend: "Comedy of Errors" 8/22/15

Lay It Out Events presents
an interpreted performance of
Shakespeare in the Park
Comedy of Errors
by William Shakespeare

Saturday, August 22, 2015
Doors open at 6:00p; performance at 7:00p
Drake Park in Bend, Or

The Shakespeare in the Park series is one of the benchmark cultural events in Central Oregon. Lay It Out Events and Portland’s Northwest Classical Theatre Company are again bringing the Bard back to Bend and Sunriver for three brilliant performances of Shakespeare’s most farcical comedy: Comedy of Errors.

One of the Bard’s earliest plays, Comedy of Errors hinges on the ripe premise of identical twins separated at birth whose paths cross to knee-slapping effect. (Sound familiar? The 1988 film Big Business, starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin, is based on this story.) Puns, word play, and slap-stick humor come together to create one of the world’s most entertaining and wild stories of mistaken identity.

Tickets: Seats have been placed on hold for sightline to the interpreters and those who need accessible seating. Please contact Lay It Out Events at (541) 323-0964 or by email for access to those seats and more information.

Seat prices range from $22 – $75.

VIP ticket holders (only $75) will receive premium seating, 2 drink tickets and dinner.
