A multiracial cast of six idealistic actors sets out to improvise a story about the first colonial genocide of the 20th Century in Africa, but get lost in the reality of their undertaking. The unusual presentation, humor and inevitable discomfort of this provocative new play gripped theatre hubs like New York, Chicago, London, Washington D.C. and Seattle with its unique theatrical investigation of prejudice, power and perspective.
NOTE: *This play uses irony, satire, racially charged language and symbolic violence to examine power, racism and perspective. We recommend this play for patrons 16 and older.*

POST SHOW DISCUSSION - This production is intended to engender conversation. Please join us for facilitated conversation about We Are Proud to Present; the discussion will be interpreted. The facilitator for the discussion following this performance will be Jo Ann Hardesty, President, NAACP Portland.

RUN TIME: 105 minutes. No intermission.

[No spoken dialogue. Background sound: actors drumming on wooden boxes and floor, making rhythmic sounds (eee, haa haa, eee, haa)]

In this irreverent, contemporary, and very funny remix of Chekhov’s The Seagull, award-winning playwright Aaron Posner wages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, in search of the true meaning of it all: an aspiring young director rampages against the art created by his mother’s generation; a nubile young actress wrestles with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist; and everyone discovers just how disappointing growing up can be. Winner of the Helen Hayes Awards for Outstanding Resident Play and Outstanding New Play or Musical.

Note: Stupid F***ing Bird is recommended for ages 16+. Contains mature language (surprise!) and content, fleeting nudity, fog, loaded guns and theater people. Children under 6 are not permitted at any PCS production.

CymaSpace is a Portland, OR based non-profit that focuses on making cultural events inclusive for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We develop art and performances that largely feature the synergy of sound, light, and vibration - some of which have been featured on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, in the Oregon Museum Science and Industry (OMSI), and the Portland Winter Light Festival.

CymaSpace was founded by Myles de Bastion, because as a musician and visual interaction designer who also happens to be Deaf, he experienced first-hand the challenge of participating in a world, that for most part takes for granted the accessibility of sound.

CymaSpace serves to create bridges between the Deaf and the Hearing in a positive way that open doors for underserved minorities, changes misconceptions about Deafness and is striving to make a real, socio-economic difference. Through our work, we show that by lowering barriers that prevent equal access to art and culture, everyone benefits.
CymaSpace is an entirely volunteer-run organization that consists of a thriving community of engineers, artists and forward-thinking partnering organizations who are pioneering the next generation of accessibility, as it pertains to arts and cultural events.

A CymaSpace event is something that needs to be experienced first-hand, all art technology and modern accessibility implementations are developed in-house and cannot be not readily found anywhere else. Whether you are Hearing, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, young or old, all of your senses will be engaged!

Guests will be treated not only to complimentary food, drinks, and their very own sound-reactive LED bracelet, but an opportunity to interact with our featured artist works, close up and made personal.

Play a sound-reactive LED piano, experience what sound really “feels” and “looks” like, witness an immersive fusion of American Sign Language with performance art, and use hands-on musical vibration to create beautifully marbled Cymatic paintings. These are just some of the activities that will be available to all guests.

We hope this invite leaves you intrigued, and you should be, this is what the future of inclusive arts and culture looks (feels and sounds) like and you’re invited!

Save the date, this special multi-sensory, multi-disciplinary event will take place on Sunday, May 29th 2015 from 5:30 - 8:30pm at 931 SE 6th Ave, Portland OR 97214.

*ASL interpreters will be provided

"The newest solo show from award-winning actor/playwright Dan Hoyle (The Real Americans) is about how we experience the world in the digital age. From a showdown with a violent felon in small-town Nebraska, to a childhood listening to anti-conformist rants in San Francisco; from the hard-scrabble corner boys of Chicago to the intellectual temple of Calcutta’s famed coffeehouse; from a Digital Detox retreat in remote Northern California to an intimate confession in Manhattan, we join Dan in his search for true community, spontaneity and wonder in our fractured, hyper-connected world."

Run Time: Approximately 80 minutes; no intermission.
