Icon, Classic, Dance, Activism : Four Interpreted Performances

There are four interpreted performances happening in the next two weeks. And at these prices, why not take in two, or three, or all four!

This week, "True West" will be interpreted at Profile Theatre on Thursday, November 13th at 7:30 pm. This is the final production of their Sam Shepard season and they are wrapping up their season with a wild ride. Ticket prices start at $5 (Arts for All program), with other options up to full price at $30 for adults.

To confront your own nature, you’ve got to fight like hell. Suddenly together after years of separation, brothers Lee and Austin wage a destructive battle through their fraternal bonds. Moments of humor and levity mingle with loneliness while Shepard’s sharply written play makes us witness to a forceful study of family ties and human frailty.

Later this week, "Much Ado About Nothing" will be interpreted at Portland Community College on Saturday, November 15th, at 7:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Sylvania Campus.

William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing takes us to the beloved banter between Beatrice and Benedick, the lover/rivals who jest and joust their way to true love. With unforgettable characters like Dogberry, Verges trying to counter the evil Don John, or the lovable Leonato, Margaret, Ursulla and Don Pedro clamoring to bring the lovers Hero and Claudio to the Friar to be married, this play offers the most laughs per minute than any other Shakespeare. Featuring work by designers Sarah Gahagan, Ashley Smith, DanHays and our talented students, this cast of 19 will bring you to laughter and love like no other play before.

Next week, Jayanthi Raman Dance Company presents SIGN MUDRAS at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 21st. This performance will take place at the Tom Miles Center, Pacific University in Forest Grove. With special guest: Ali Ray, Sign Language Interpreter.

Wrapping up these two weeks of interpreted performances is "Holding Onto The Sky ," created by the Faultline Ensemble in collaboration with the Rosehip Medic Collective. This performance will be interpreted on Saturday, November 22nd at 8:00 pm.

Set in a fictional post-disaster Portland, this performance explores the ways communities respond to disaster and the destruction of infrastructure, and the ways individuals come together to create networks of support. As neighbors turn to one another in the aftermath of destruction, they share stories that question the nature of disaster response, the effectiveness of our healthcare system, and the resiliency of our communities.
