PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION
Casting a contemporary drama, "Tribes," which centers on Billy, the only deaf member of a competitively comedic and intellectual family. Unsupported by his parents and siblings, he reaches out to the deaf community and learns sign language, creating funny but fierce tensions at home. Billy finally confronts his childhood resentments, while he and his family struggle with the intricacies of language and the human need to belong to a tribe.

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Billy: (Lead) the youngest son in his family, deaf and an expert lip reader, intelligent and compassionate, youthful and inexperienced, recently moved back in with his parents after university, was raised by hearing parents who purposefully kept their son away from other deaf people, so he wouldn't develop a "minority mindset," finds a sense of belonging in the deaf community and in his relationship with Sylvia as she teaches him sign language; role requires extensive sign language.
