BARDO | Delicate Fish

Portland, OR - In the stall of winter, two solo pieces, “BARDO”, a dance theater piece by Lyra Butler-Denman, and “Delicate Fish”, a dance piece by Jess Evans, are presented alongside and in communication with one another. 

To die is a process whose edges are feathered in all directions. 

To grieve is to feel love that has nowhere to go. 

To heal is to touch with love that which was previously touched by fear. 

BARDO - A conversation and a conjuring, BARDO embodies the transition states of dying, of grieving, of a relationship moving from the physical plane to existing, maybe (we hope), somewhere else. It reckons with the lack of guideposts, the emptiness and loneliness after a death, and with the active process of filling that space, of making a map where there is none. Trailer here

LineStorm Playwrights present a *free* and *interpreted* reading of a new play every day of Fertile Ground. Yes, beginning January 30th and continuing through February 9th, there is a reading of a different new script. The readings begin at noon, except the two Sunday readings are at 6:00 pm.

All of the readings are at Chapel Theatre. See the poster for the script and playwright(s) presented each day, as well as theatre address.

"Clever Enough proudly announces their second show: Hamlet by William Shakespeare. This production will, among other things, challenge the viewers into seeing the often overlooked aspects of this masterfully written play. A lot of attention is being placed on Fortinbras since he is so often cut out of productions and films altogether. This production is making a point to demonstrate how politics and deeply rooted family violence and betrayal are intertwined--the personal is political. Hamlet is a character with the sins of the father on him, but he’s got other things on his plate. Besides, Norway and the imperialism done in the past is old news and nothing to worry about.

…Or is it?

Meanwhile this production will not be shy about inspiring much deserved sympathy and admiration for Ophelia, Laertes and Gertrude by embracing their depth and heart. Furthermore, Clever Enough aims to remind the audience that while Hamlet is the hero of the play… he’s still human. And human beings can be cold sometimes. What’s more interesting: portraying this story as cut and dry, or delving into the grey areas of it with the intention of inspiring critical thinking? We think it’s the latter. "
