The title for each of the plays below links to the Facebook event page, which contains additional information, such as photos, reviews, videos, tickets, interpreters, and more.

Sat   10/05/19   Eclipsed  - Corrib Theatre 7:30 pm
"Nobody wants these women.
In a Magdalene Laundry in Ireland, where the nuns regard them as mindless vessels of evil and their infants are forcibly put up for adoption, a group of young unwed Irish mothers struggle, resist, and strive to overcome the onerous conditions imposed on them. Based on true accounts and written by an ex-nun who worked there, it’s a story of both pain and hope. Opened in the late 1800s, the last Magdalene Laundry didn’t close until 1996."

Sat   10/05/19   How I Became a Pirate - NW Children's Theater 11:00 am
"Avast, ye mateys! Set sail on a high-seas adventure with a motley crew of bumbling pirates as the fearsome Captain Braid Beard lands at a quiet family vacation spot in search of an expert digger to join the crew. This slapstick swashbuckler will delight children, parents, and every pirate-at-heart." *important ticket information on the Facebook event page*

Sun  10/06/19   Welcome to Zion  *free* - LineStorm & Broadway Rose 7:30 pm
"The teen suicide rate in Utah has been rising exponentially in the last decade, especially among LGBTQ+ youth. WELCOME TO ZION follows one Mormon family who, upon learning their son is gay, must try to reconcile this new reality with the beliefs that form the foundation of their faith."

Wed 10/09/19   The Wolves - Portland Playhouse  7:30 pm
"From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, a girls' soccer team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals."

Thu  10/17/19   Macbeth  - Portland Center Stage 7:30 pm
"Shakespeare’s infamous tale of political gluttony and supernatural vengeance finds refreshing new life in this piercing, stripped-down adaptation that creates a taut, contemporary thrill ride. Three women tackle all the roles. Perennially relevant and breathtaking, Macbeth is a drama that demands to be seen — whether it’s your first or five hundredth time."

Sun  10/20/19   Orlando - Pacific University  2:00 pm
"Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando is the sexy, ever-surprising epic of a life that spans centuries, shifts genders, and defies labels. Adapted for the stage by Sarah Ruhl, a brilliant contemporary playwright." *Free* for students.

Sun  10/20/19   Bakkhai  - Shaking the Tree 5:30 pm
“Euripides was a playwright of the fifth century BC who reinvented Greek tragedy, setting it on a path that leads straight to reality TV. His plays broke all the rules, upended convention and outraged conservative critics. The Bakkhai is his most subversive play, telling the story of a man who cannot admit he would rather live in the skin of a woman, and a god who seems to combine all sexualities into a single ruinous demand for adoration. Dionysus is the god of intoxication. Once you fall under his influence, there is no telling where you will end up.”

Fri    10/25/19   The Baltimore Waltz  - Profile Theatre at Image 7:30 pm
"Paula Vogel’s fantastical satire takes us on a whirlwind odyssey through Paris, Amsterdam, Munich and Vienna, and is part heartfelt tribute, part political indictment written at the height of the AIDS crisis."

Thu  10/31/19   Women of Will  - Portland Playhouse 7:30 pm
"Part masterclass / part performance: Funny, fierce, deep and accessible, Women of Will is the bonus content to Shakespeare’s plays that you have been searching for. Join master Shakespearean actor/dramaturg, Tina Packer as she conjures up and deconstructs William Shakespeare’s most famous female characters."
