"Sweeney Todd" : A Musical Thriller

Justin Coleman introduces Portland Center Stage's first show of their 25th anniversary season, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," which opened last week. This play will be interpreted on Thursday, October 4th at 7:30 p.m. by Dot Hearn and Carin Billings; Justin is the Sign Coach.

And, as Justin says, remember that Deaf Theater Chat starts at 6:30 p.m. Since "Sweeney Todd" is on the main stage, the Chat will be on the mezzanine level. The interpreters and sign coach will be there, as well as other community members for the interpreted performance. A light snack and beverage will be available; the cafe and bar will also be open on the main level if you want to have dinner or purchase a latte or other drink.

Thank you for the video, Justin!

And we look forward to seeing you at the theater. This show is very popular, so be sure to purchase your tickets soon if you haven't already.

Watch for another PCS blog post from me later this week. Guess what the theme will be? Right: interpreting musicals and, specifically, a bit about our process of preparing to interpret "Sweeney Todd."

Portland Center Stage : Welcome to the Season

My first post for Portland Center Stage's blog went out today. It has a brief overview of the season with a couple of highlighted plays. I will be writing posts throughout the 2012-13 season for PCS, focusing on theatrical interpreting, both general information and details related to specific productions.

Thank you to the PCS signing access team members who answered my call to "show me your hands" yesterday. Your hands appear in the image on the PCS blog post.

The next post will be about PCS's first production, "Sweeney Todd."

You can read the PCS post here.  This PCS webpage also includes a link to all signed performances for the season so you can get them on your calendar now.

Signed Video: PCS Deaf Theatre Chat & Tickets

Justin Coleman put together an introduction to interpreted plays at Portland Center Stage. He explains how Deaf and Hard of Hearing theatergoers can purchase their tickets for the interpreted section using the special discount code. He also gives a nice explanation of Deaf Theatre Chat, which happens before every evening interpreted performance.

Keep an eye out for future videos from Justin for each play in the season.

Thank you, Justin!
